I should start by warning this song and video contain dangerously high levels of schmaltz and romantic sentimentality. I prefer to call it 'sappy but happy'! In my defence I'm more of a pianist/composer than a lyricist. But when it comes to writing songs it's easiest to think of blue skies, sun, sea, palm trees and soft music when composing the lyrics (shown below). Schmaltz is a common denominator. Having said that I'm quite happy with this one. I started when I found a short video clip (as in the video's thumbnail) of a guy walking into a bar and a young lady with a sad face that suddenly lit up into a beaming smile upon seeing him and I built a story around that. I was trying to manufacture a song that I had no ideas for. I hasten to add no actual holiday romances were harmed in the making of this video but a few clichés were definitely embraced with open arms! I must have watched too many rom-coms! I must thank my Synth V singers again who did a good job - they're not real but voicebanks have feelings too!! I always use Liam and Solaria as Jason and Kylie substitutes and I use Hayden and Felicia as backing singers. Felicia can really belt out those wine glass shattering high notes! Saros I haven't found a use for and I think he's a bit depressed about it!! Please like, listen, comment and subscribe but most of all enjoy and as per my new catchphrase 'keep those ears happy!' Look out for my childhood avatar at the end! see the sun lay down be-hind the waves once more, gold-en light won't rest on shift-ing sand, soon the tide is turn-ing as the wind blows through the palms, soon the night will call yet through it all we sim-ply might just fall in-to each oth-ers arms time can take its toll, ev-ry-one grows old, when your hopes get thinner some-times there's a glimm-er of hope and so I walk in-to the old bar we would vis-it, this must be a waste of time or is it? just a lit-tle fling did-nt mean a thing ev-ry thing and noth-ing all at once per-haps you walk with eve-ning tide, or you don't come here an-y more, I gave it one last chance, must be worth one last glance, and then I see you walk-ing through the door I walked in to see you as you were be-fore, like the room knew where you're meant to be, thought the years might blur you out and make you some-thing small, now I see you here with me it's plain as plain can be that noth-ing's changed for us at all but youth was so much fun, ne-ver walk just run, al-ways being a winn-er vic-tor-ies grew slim-mer with time and so I walked in-to the bar we used to vis-it, saw you there just smil-ing and ex-quis-ite, let-ters that I wrote didn'-nt ev-en post, stared ah-ead and nev-er looked be-hind so now let's walk with eve-ning tide, I will not leave you an-y more this al-ways was my dream, and now at last I've seen and took my chance by walk-ing through the door see the sun rise high a-bove the waves once more, gold-en light that rests on gold-en sand, soon the tide is turn-ing as the wind blows through the palms, soon the night will call yet through it all we sim-ply know we'll fall in-to each oth-ers arms time may take its toll ev-ry-one grows old, but now our hopes are bright-er, evry-thing seems light-er er for sure we of-ten think of that old bar we will re-mem-ber, as how it once re-lit a dy-ing em-ber, ev-ry-thing can change, just be re-arr-anged, ev ry thing from noth-ing all at once so now we walk with eve-ning tide and no-one's leav-ing any-more more we gave it one last chance, was worth that one last glance, we took that chance when we walked through that door © Copyright Martyn Clive Johnson.
