I had fun with different flows and Sunny imagery. A Beach Club Palm Reader is a ridiculous image, but that's what it's supposed to be: fun, tongue-in-cheek escapism. It was written in the middle of lockdown during Sydney’s winter, and so it was a little and brief chute into a high-living Mediterranean holiday that all of us probably needed, but could only dream of. If you bump your head and dream of the Italian Riviera, we'll have done our job. More widely, it sits as the first full song on a soon-to-be-released concept record called 'Poolside with Mr. Medici', named after and inspired by ‘Poolside with Slim Aarons’, a critically acclaimed book of photography that documented the luxurious lives of wealthy jet-setters from the 1950s to the 1970s. The whole thing is meant to feel like a holiday - from the highs of the beach club to the lows of a wistful night with the breeze kicking high - and is supposed to articulate the range of emotions that you might have on an Italian vacation filled with excess.
