A playthrough of the exclusive hidden character Hitomi in Team Ninja’s Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate. Hey, an exclusive hidden character. Who is this mysterious fluid druid? She’s actually person who took in Hayate when he lost his memory and trained him in karate, when he also took on the name Ein. She makes her debut in DOA3 and is supposed to be a little additional bonus for fans of the series. Indeed, Hitomi is incredibly interesting as an unlockable character. Why? Well, the only way to unlock her is to have a savegame of Dead or Alive 3 or…Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball on the player’s hard-drive. Thank fuck that sub-series never had any hidden characters to cover. When a player has said save on their hard-drive, Hitomi can be unlocked by playing the game through on normal with Ein. What’s quite interesting is that this mechanic still works when emulating both games on the Xbox 360. What’s also really interesting is that DOA3 is backwards compatible with the 360, but Xtreme Beach Volleyball isn’t. For a company who really tried to make DOA an Xbox series, they could have done a little better than that. As a result, Hitomi is intended as an additional bonus for those who owned either of those games, which is a pretty decent intention were it not for the fact that requires an additional purchase to access something which should be available from the beginning. Which is something which Team Ninja would never repeat with their games ever again. Cough cough DOA6 cough cough. Hitomi’s moveset is absolutely fantastic on the whole though. She mainly utilises powerful strikes against the opponent in order to subdue them and knock them into stage hazards for even more damage and combo potential. She doesn’t quite have the extensive combos of the speedy characters but can absolutely hold her own when it comes to counter strikes and basic but heavy-hitting combinations. I really like Hitomi’s design and character in general, and if it weren’t for Ayane she’d easily be my favourite character in the series. She has quite a sweet design, which constrasts nicely with her ability to send opponents literally flying off a cliff with one punch. Hitomi was a ton of fun to play as here, especially in a game with so many stage hazards and things to knock your opponent into. Up next, I finally move onto DOA3.
