Media for Learning: The Advent of AI in Education. Lecture 4: Innovative Paradigms Pentagon. The well-known ‘Pentagon’ of Innovative Learning Paradigms was defined by Dr. Madhumita Bhattacharya. Its components are: 1. Active Learning. 2. Constructivist Learning and Reflection. 3. Cooperative, Collaborative, and Conversational Learning. 4. Authentic, Complex, and Contextualized Learning. 5. Intentional, Reflective, and Regulatory Learning. Each of these innovative elements has been clearly explained recently. The strength of this pentagon comes from recognizing that many aspects of ‘better learning and teaching’ have emerged over the past thirty years. It’s easy to see that teaching goes beyond simply following instructional procedures; it is an endless opportunity to reconsider how the learner’s mindset needs a mix of challenges to connect prior and new ideas. Learning without Learn-to-Learn skills is incomplete. Learning is about one’s willingness to change oneself. That may sound dramatic, but it is simply the courage to accept a turbulent world as a place where survival depends on adaptation. Concepts like ‘Democracy,’ ‘Responsibility,’ and ‘Diversity’ require a vibrant space for practice, where conflicts among values and cultural identities are tested and challenged, creating either harmony or division. The complete reality is the only basis for human learning; reduction is only helpful for conveying early precursors, such as Ausubel’s ‘Advance Organizer’ premise. Actuality is often seen as a disturbance of ‘systematic’ learning. In fact, reality is the most powerful factor in meaningful learning; reducing learners' exposure to the world is harmful to their growth and unethical. https://link.springer.com/book/978303...
