Recorded 11/23/2025: We FINALLY make it to the Staten island Railway & got to see what the R211S trains are like! In this video, we take a ride on one of the R211s trains from the most Southern Terminal & the Farthest most Southern part of New York (Tottenville) to Bay Terrace since we wanted to railfan there for a little bit before heading back to Manhattan. We also get to see a couple of R44s parked at Tottenville as well! Even though they look A LOT like the R46s, these things were technologically advanced for their time & can hit around 90mph when pushed to their limits! They also paved the way for some of the technology we see on the Subway today! My thoughts on the R211s: The 211s are honestly AMAZING! They are super smooth, the interiors are bright and colorful, and the LED signage is a big upgrade from what a lot of the current NTTs (New Technology Trains) have. If I had 1 gripe about them, it would be the fact that the PA speakers do not have the highest sound quality, which makes the announcements sound like they're coming from a crappier cell pone speaker or something. This is something that the older NTTs, such as the R142/A, R160/A/B, R179s, and R188s have knocked out of the park, so in a way, it does feel like a step backward. Hopefully that will be something the MTA can address or make better sometime down the line. But other than that, I love them! Enjoy a look at the R44s and these new and sleek R211s that have been the biggest upgrade to SIRR in over 50 years!
