A microwave ablation is a treatment option that uses image guidance to place a probe needle through the skin into a liver tumour. Microwaves are generated around the needle tip to create a targeted volume of heat in and immediately adjacent to the tumour. The heat created destroys the liver cancer cells. Microwave ablation is an effective treatment option. The treatment is typically performed on an outpatient basis or may require a short hospital stay.
