Fishing out deep on Toledo Bend! We found the Fish!

Cole and I are back on Toledo Bend prefishing for our upcoming Bass Champs Tournament. We are fishing North of the Pendelton Bridge and Fishing mostly on the Texas side, but we also fished some parts of Louisiana in the main river. We decided to scrap everything we know about Toledo and just went fishing. We started just south of Martinez and worked our way back south. We were targeting prespawn bass anywhere from 5' to 40' We were fishing deep points and creeks that were close to the main river channel and areas that weren't far from good spawning flats. We found some very good-looking areas on the Texas side, but the water needs to come up 2 or 3' before the largemouth bass and bream will move in the cypress trees and bushes. Our best bait was a tiny spoon Cole had that was made by Cotton Cordell. You can get them from Wal-Mart and Academy. They're pretty cheap too! This lure caught us one catfish, a pile of white bass, drum, yellow bass, spotted bass and some nice largemouth. The other lures we caught fish on was a 1oz football jig, Carolina rig brush hog and a 1/2oz Bill Lewis Trap in a bream color. Lots of bass are in the prespawn stage since winter finally showed up in Texas but I look for the spawn to kick off any day. Usually by February I'm sight fishing on Toledo but not this year. That Garmin Livescope is definitely the best tool for fishing deep water! We used it to locate shad and when we would see the shad, we would see the bass. Usually, they were not far away from the shad. That Garmin is definitely a must for deep water fishing! If you don't have one I reccomend getting one! Good fishing guys and gals!
