It is based on the Super Mario Bros engine, but has been completely reworked into a whole new adventure, with new features such as a collectible in the form of Mario Coins that unlock secrets (one per level except castles, for 32 in total), a secret level accessible in New Game+, and a new stopwatch item that freezes time.
