Today’s Star Citizen 4.5 PTU patch brings some of the most important engineering and survivability changes we’ve seen so far — and this time, they genuinely improve the player experience. I tested the new patch flying the Vanguard Harbinger and Greycat Shiv, focusing on real combat behavior, component damage, and overall ship survivability. The results are very telling. Key highlights from this build: Critical powerplant timer doubled, giving pilots far more reaction time When hull reaches zero health, only the powerplant takes damage — no more instant cascading failures across thrusters and components S2 shields received increased health and regeneration Fixed fuse damage modifier for single-seat ships with no interior Further armor differentiation for Idris M and Starlancer TAC Overheating issues on newly spawned ships finally resolved Engineering UI improvements: legends, alert icons, visual clarity, spacing Weapon handling refinements (nudge & angles) Breached doors and ramps now properly reset after repair (long-standing bug fixed) Experimental VR implementation added (not tested in this video) From my testing, engineering is now clearly shifting toward supporting the pilot instead of punishing them, especially for solo and small-crew gameplay. Survivability feels more predictable, systems behave logically, and combat flow is smoother than previous PTU builds. This patch is a strong step toward making engineering a tool, not a chore.
