NEXT HOME GAME: More League and Gardiner Conference points are up for grabs when Fife Flyers return to Braehead next Sunday, 7th February (face off 6:00pm) in another all-Scottish derby affair that’s not to be missed. Tickets are on sale NOW via TICKETMASTER, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office. Braehead Clan are second in the Elite League after coming from behind to beat Fife Flyers 3-1 in Glasgow. Matt Keith and Alex Leavitt went close with chances in the opening stages before Stefan Meyer was set up as Clan broke shortly after, but the effort went wide. Meyer then set up Keith in a similar move as Clan had a man advantage, but again the opportunity fizzed just wide of the mark. How the first period ended goalless was hard to fathom, but there were more chances from both teams and it was the visitors that opened the scoring. Nico Sacchetti travelled in from the right and fired a backhanded shot that beat Travis Fullerton in Clan’s goal to put Fife in front. Justin Fox almost added a second as he was well placed in front of Fullerton to clip the shot home, but found Clan’s goalie in a stubborn mood. But seconds later, Ben Davies’ well struck blast from the inside left flew past David Brown in the Fife goal and we were all square by the end of the second period. There wasn’t much between the teams and when Fife’s Justin Fox sat for slashing, Brendan Brooks rifled one in from the blue line to put the home side ahead on the powerplay. Then Scott Pitt tucked away the clincher with an empty net goal in the final seconds to make sure of the victory.
