16-year-old girl found shot in car near Henderson playground

A 16-year-old girl is dead after Henderson police found her shot in a car on Saturday night. Police say they found Krystal Gray inside a silver Acura SUV, parked near a playground at the intersection of Montgomery and College Street around 7 p.m. Gray was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information after Gray's death. As police ask for help with their investigation, some in the community say this needs to be a wakeup call for Henderson. Now more than ever, neighbors are calling for change. Jasani Jones and her three kids have only lived on College Street for a few weeks, but the playground on the corner has quickly become a favorite for them. However, news of Gray's shooting and death could change that. She says it makes her terrified for her children. "It really makes me feel like they need to be in the house at all times, honestly," she said. In the wake of the shooting, some say they are angry, but not surprised. One neighbor says she's called the police five times this year after shots were fired in front of her home. Janie Jeffreys says gunshots have become so common she's scared to leave her house after dark. "Bullets don’t have a name on them. They don’t have a name on them. It’s outrageous," she said. Jeffreys says she doesn't understand where teenagers are getting access to these guns. "Where are the guns coming from? That’s the hard part," she said.
