Kenya MPs with disability decry inaccessibility of Parliament Kenyan Legislators with disability are up in arms over the challenges they face in accessing Parliament buildings. They are protesting against Parliamentary Service Commission's failure to fully comply with the Persons with Disability Act 2003. The Act became law in 2003 to ensure that all buildings are fully accessible to people with disability. The ninth parliament enacted the Persons with Disability Act, which gives a number of generous entitlements to those with disability. (give examples) The twelfth parliament has a total of 12 MPs with disabilities, the highest number in comparison to previous houses. While there have been efforts to ensure that the parliament building is easily accessible to legislators with disability, MPs say they are yet to be fully accommodated in the existing structural designs. The PSC leadership attributes the challenges to the parliament building being old. (Place quote) A new 26-storey office building that will house all the 418 MPs is still under contraction. It is estimated (by who) that 6.5 million Kenyans live with disability. Watch KTN Live http://www.ktnnews.com/live Watch KTN News http://www.ktnnews.com Follow us on / ktnnews Like us on / ktnnews
