In this train-accessible half day trip video, I’m sharing an easy and flexible walking route in Castlemaine, a historic gold-rush town full of art, gardens and amazing food. We walk, eat, drink and explore our way through this artsy town all without needing to drive. 🚶‍♂️ Distance: 6.1 km (easy to shorten or extend). 👟 Difficulty: Easy and flat. 🚋 Public Transport: V/Line from Southern Cross Station (1.5 hours). 🚋 Starting Point: Castlemaine Railway Station. ↪️ Turning Point: Castlemaine Botanical Gardens. 🚻 Facilities: Public toilets along the way. 🐶 Pet Friendly: Yes, dogs are welcome on lead. 💜 Highlights (in order): 🎨 Castlemaine Art Museum (a fascinating stop with exhibits from the gold-rush era, including everyday items used by Chinese immigrants at the time). 🖼️ Castlemaine Visitor Information Centre (more like an art gallery than a visitor centre, great souvenirs with good quality and affordable price). 🌳 Castlemaine Botanical Gardens (a peaceful and beautiful garden, check out the Victory Tree). 🏭 The Mill Castlemaine, a must-visit creative hub includes: • Coffee Basics Das Kaffeehaus (amazing Viennese coffee and beer🍺) • Long Paddock Cheese & The Cheese School • Icecream Republic • Cabosse & Feve Chocolates • Boomtown Winery & Bistro …and plenty more, guaranteed to leave with full bags and full hearts 💛.
