The debate continues, whether cell phone towers and cell phones cause any health hazard. As per the Indian government there are no serious health hazards due to cell phone towers. The government has changed its radiation norms mainly due to 3 factors - the initial norm, scientific study and also keeping in mind about the different radiation norms (i.e. low) of different countries. The initial norms were based on the studies of WHO and ICNIRP. As per DOT the existing norms are more stringent than 90% of the countries globally. Actress Juhi Chawla also shares her story of how she became an activist to remove the cell phone towers mounted on the State Ministry's guest house opposite her residence. The radiation measurements were done at her place and it was observed that the radiation levels were extremely high. Juhi says she was successful in removing the towers from that building after a long battle with the government.
