Teaching Chinese Ceramic Painting: Our First Class (Fa Hua Cai & Qing Hua)

My first group ceramics class! Teaching Chinese ceramic painting techniques to my first group of students was honestly one of the most rewarding experiences. Watching them discover fa hua cai (cloisonné-style painting) and qing hua (blue and white) for the first time reminded me why I fell in love with these traditional techniques in the first place. Seeing their results at the end of the session was so exciting - each piece had its own personality, and you could see the moment things "clicked" for them. This class taught me as much as I hope I taught them! What we covered: Fa hua cai (法華彩) - the raised outline technique that creates that beautiful cloisonné effect Qing hua (青花) - traditional Chinese blue and white painting Brush control and traditional motifs This is just the beginning of documenting my journey as a ceramics painting teacher, and I'm so grateful to this first group for trusting me with their creative exploration.
