Hi there, Guys! This time around, I've played with the convention of the review a tad since it's a "guest appearance" of an eye-witness to the rise and fall of the famous, or infamous, Bonanno family over the course of several decades :). Obviously, everybody is aware of films like the "Godfather" trilogy, "Goodfellas, "Casino" and alike, but probably few people have ever heard of, not to mention having seen it, a motion picture entitled "Bonanno: A Godfather's Story" from 1999. That's a pity; though, because this mini TV series is a very compelling story of the humble beginnings of, arguably, one of the biggest mafiosos in the history of the USA. Despite its limitations due to the format of the project, i.e. the limited budget, a star-studded cast in the secondary roles together with a fantastic, but somewhat small, performance from Martin Landau make this fascinating story even more engrossing. As can be imagined, "Bonanno" A Godfather's Story" is a violent depiction of criminal activities over the course of several decades and albeit some critics claim that it shows a glorified portrayal of Bonanno and mobsters in general, I think it's typical of most gangster flicks anyway, it just goes with the territory. On top of that, the picture quality of this mere DVD release is surprisingly good and definitely worth having in your collection :).
