Lords members begin discussions on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill on Friday 12 September. This is the first of two days of second reading, the first phase of a bill's passage through the Lords. Almost 200 members are expected to speak over two days, bringing a range of professional and lived experience, including nurses, doctors and lawyers. The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill is a private members' bill, which is a type of public bill introduced by an individual member of the Lords (rather than the government). If passed, it would allow adults in England and Wales with a prognosis of less than six months to live to be provided with assistance to end their lives, subject to eligibility criteria and conditions.
