Repeated coups d'état, massacres, exactions, trafficking of all kinds, displaced populations... the Central African Republic (CAR), a former French colony, has descended into chaos. Since its independence in 1960, the country has been constantly ravaged by civil war. In 2013, following a new putsch led by a rebellion from the North, France intervened militarily ("Operation Sangaris") to try to restore peace. But today, the territory of this State is fragmented. And many Central Africans feel like they have been abandoned by France. Now, fourteen rebel groups control two-thirds of the CAR. Public services are abandoned. In some regions, there is barely one doctor for 30,000 inhabitants. Hospitals are overwhelmed. Schools are only open part of the year. The State is virtually absent. In Bangui, the country's capital, traders are extorted and threatened by mafia gangs. Our teams followed the daily life of self-defense militias who do not hesitate to enlist children. They also gained access to the gold mines in the north of the country, managed by the FPRC, one of the main rebel groups (12,000 armed men). In this chaos, some are trying to pull it off, like Jean-Serge Bokassa, one of the 43 sons of Emperor Bokassa I. For its part, Russia is establishing itself in the CAR, taking advantage of France's withdrawal, and intends to consolidate its political and military influence. It is sending political advisors, military trainers and even mercenaries, attracted by the country's natural resources. At the same time, Russia is deploying a "soft power" strategy. We attended a curious event: the organization of the Miss Central African Republic election, sponsored by a Russian mining company. An unprecedented investigation into the hell of the Central African Republic, one of the richest and most chaotic countries in Africa. Director: Solomone Kane, Pascal Lerouge, Eric de Lavarenne
