In part 4 of our motorcycle journey from Rotterdam to Bangkok, we leave Russia behind and head south into the vast emptiness of western Kazakhstan. Smooth tarmac quickly turns into heat, broken roads, endless potholes, and isolation. We push deep into the desert toward Beket Ata and the Ustyurt National Reserve. With temperatures rising above 40°C, deep sand, no internet, and no escape routes. When crashes, exhaustion, and a lack of resources force us to turn back, we learn our first hard lesson of Central Asia.
