TPE 2023: Chris Monaco talks packaging design for “The West Side Story”

#cigarpackagedesign #cigarpackaging #cigars Total Product Expo 2023 (TPE23) in Las Vegas, is where Christopher Monaco, co-founder of Amendola Family Cigar Co., and Humberto Areas, from Cigar Package Design, got together to talk about the packaging design for the new "The West Side Story". This is the first installment of its new Amendola NYC Series, which is a series that will pay homage to the New York City roots of owners Jeffrey Amendola and Christopher Monaco. “The West Side Story” is a very special project for both Jeff and Chris. Their goal for this packaging design project was to honor and pay homage to their Italian-American roots. Both having been born and raised in New York City. The color scheme and design draws inspiration from vintage New York. And of course, their iconic red, white and blue license plates with the imposing red Statue of Liberty. Besides the use of color, we also wanted to incorporate an extra layer of texture and depth to set the tone. So incorporated into the background is a light gray cement pattern / texture that serves that purpose. Packaging design also includes the use of “Baseball Bats” and “Switch Blades” to define the two blends (one with a San Andres Maduro wrapper, the other with a Brazilian Arapiraca) included in each box. This makes a reference to the street weapons used in the legendary musical. “The West Side Story” is hand made on the Westside of New York City by Martinez Hand Rolled Cigars, where Jesus Martinzes oversees the entire production. Martinez Hand Rolled Cigars is the oldest cigar factory in New York City.
