Over 550 celebrities relaunched the Committee for the First Amendment, a group originally formed during the post-WWII Red Scare. The group’s intent is to defend constitutional rights, saying, "The federal government is once again engaged in a coordinated campaign to silence critics in the government, the media, the judiciary, academia, and the entertainment industry." Committee for the First Amendment is led by actor and activist Jane Fonda — whose father, actor Henry Fonda, was one of the early members of the first Committee for the First Amendment. At the Committee’s second meeting, Fonda talks to Rappler CEO Maria Ressa about how democracy is under attack through misinformation, AI, and narrative warfare — and how storytellers, journalists, and communities can push back.
