Presenter: Dr. Joel Andersson, University West Description: This talk will present the University West research group on welding, the largest research group in Sweden, and will also touch base on fabrication aspects regarding superalloys. Fabrication and welding of structural components for the hot section of aero-engines continues to be of high importance to the manufacturing industry of aero-engines. This webinar addresses weldability aspects and specifically hot cracking and strain age cracking, cracking phenomena that can occur during welding or subsequent heat treatment of precipitation hardening Ni- and Ni-Fe-based superalloys. The influence of chemical composition in terms of i.e. hardening elements and impurities, microstructure of base material and weld zone, together with welding processes and corresponding parameters and heat input are discussed and related to the cracking susceptibility of different precipitation hardening Ni- and Ni-Fe- based superalloys.
