I'll rate this SC Models Cathay Pacific flaps down in 10 categories. SC Models features this green packaging design. It tells you this 742 comes with flaps up & flaps down versions. It also gives you the history and specs of this CX’s first 742. The soft foam packaging ensures very good protection. I'll give packaging a 9. Accessories include a standard display stand and magnetic landing gear. Unlike Gemini’s flaps down, SC doesn’t provide an additional extended nose gear to depict the plane in the air. I’m a bit disappointed. All gear door covers fit in perfectly. And it’s very easy to insert the gear. Each model comes with a fuselage skin-like info card. The cruising angle looks very good on the stand. The lack of an extended nose gear is a major setback. Therefore, I'll only give accessories an 8. In my opinion, JC's 747s moulds are the most mature products in the market. So, its OEM products, including Gemini’s and today's SC's, won't disappoint us. The fuselage is flawless from nose to tail. All curves are simply perfect. Its seamless belly is its biggest advantage over the Inflight200 747s. But the wing joint of this new mould bothers me a bit. You see, there’s a very tiny gap here. It’s inferior to the old JC mould we saw in JC’s Air Canada B747-200 we unboxed in another video. The wings and the vertical stabilizer look very good. I'll give an 8. The fan blades can rotate. All four engines are aligned at the same angle, which is not always the case. Like the Gemini Qantas 747-400 I previously unboxed in another video. I'll give this SC a 9. The wings and the horizontal stabilizers are very well aligned, with very well installed engines with good ground clearance. The assembly is seamless without any visible gaps. The vertical stabilizer is perfectly aligned at 90 degrees. I'll give a 9. If we look closely, we’ll find the plane tilts a bit occasionally and the nose gear doesn’t touch the ground. The main gear set is very finely made. They can tilt firmly and look really good. I think the undercarriage deserves an 8. All antennas and other tiny features are very finely made. The flaps and slats are very good looking. The landing lights on the nose gear leg are made by inserted gems. So are those on the wings. When we look at the BBOX 744, we can see it really paints this area in silver just like the real plane’s. But this SC doesn’t go as detailed as BBOX. I'll give an 8 for details. The livery on this plane is highly detailed. It perfectly presents Cathay's complicated Brushwing logo and the gradient red line. The model accurately depicts Cathay’s 1990s livery of which using the parent company name "Swire Group" instead of the later simplified "Swire" in the 2000s. I'll give livery a 9. Many brands struggle with Cathay's unique light blue-gray color. You can see that in another unboxing video in which JC, NG, and AV are compared side by side. Let’s use Aviationtag’s Cathay 744 real skin as our colour reference here. I’ll say the light blue, dark green and red are all very close to the real thing. I especially like SC paints the engine pylons in polished silver, and therefore outperforms the old BBOX this time. I'll give painting a 9. This SC Cathay 742 has very limited units made. Overall, it's the highest quality Cathay 742 model to date. And most importantly, it's a rare flaps down! So, I have no doubt to give a value of 9. I’ll give this SC Cathay 742 a total of 86 points in my ARAIG Index. #unboxing #cathaypacific #scmodels
