Note: Scanner audio has been edited for conciseness. *TIMESTAMPS:* 0:00 to 0:56 - Information 0:57 to 2:20 - McHenry Police Department Scanner Audio 2:21 to 7:20 - McHenry Township Fire Protection District Scanner Audio 7:21 to 10:15 - Illinois Fire Emergency Radio Network (IFERN) Scanner Audio 10:15 to 28:34 - Video of the Scene 28:35 to 30:07 - Photos of the Scene On January 16th, 2020 at approximately 4:40 PM, the McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vehicle into building crash with injuries and entrapment at Starbucks, 4305 W Elm St, in McHenry, IL. Initial investigation revealed a pickup truck was driving westbound on W Elm St and left the roadway east of the intersection of W Elm St & Oak Dr. The vehicle continued off the roadway and crashed into the northeast corner of a Starbucks. Upon arrival, emergency crews found a pickup truck into the building with heavy structural damage. There were multiple injuries, entrapment, and a natural gas leak. Fire command requested MABAS Box Alarm #5-Collapse to the box alarm level for structural collapse and MABAS Box Alarm #5-1251 to the 3rd alarm level for ambulances only, bringing in apparatus from fire departments across McHenry County, IL and Lake County, IL. A white Nissan SUV in the drive-thru area was also involved. The driver of the pickup truck, a 53 year old Lakemoor man, was trapped inside the vehicle and another person was trapped under the vehicle. Fire crews extricated the patients and a 21 year old male Starbucks employee was transported to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, IL in critical condition. He is recovering and his condition has improved as of the time of this upload. Another Starbucks employee was also injured. They were treated at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry, IL with minor injuries. The driver of the white Nissan SUV was treated and released from Northwestern Medicine Hospital. In total, five people were injured. Four of the patients were transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital and one patient was transported to Advocate Condell Hospital via Flight For Life. The McHenry County Regional Major Crash Investigation Team determined the cause of the crash was due to a medical emergency the driver of the pickup truck was having prior to the incident. The 53 year old Lakemoor man will not be cited nor charged.
