His real name is Gil Hamilton and was born in Leesburg, Florida. He got his music start singing in church. While singing under the name Gil Hamilton for the Capitol label, he recorded the Original version of "Tell Him", which The Exciters would later record and make the Top 10. "Loop De Loop" is a Top 10 hit (#4) that sounds like a kid song. It's one of those fun children songs that you may hear on the radio on an infrequent basis. Johnny Thunder played drums on this tune, while the writers, Teddy Vann & Joe Dong, kept feeding him the words on scraps of paper, as the song was recorded. They made up the words as the song was actually being recorded! Johnny Thunder was typecast by this song as a singer of nursery rhymes. He recorded 8 more songs for the Diamond label. "Everybody Do the Sloopy" only reached the Top 70 on the Billboard Charts and was his next biggest, minor hit song. Wham-O began a big marketing campaign in the late 50s with the Hula Hoop. Initially, it became very popular with kids. The hoops were made of plastic by this California toy maker. More than 100 hoops have been twirled by one person to keep re-setting the world's record. Today, Rochester, New York, houses the Hula Hoop in the National Toy Hall of Fame. Happy 2026 from "Hula Hoop Dancing" YouTube. As viewers, we Loved the show & so did our kids in our High School.
