Exploring Sun to Earth Portals through Roblox: 2024 SpaceApps Hackathon Project Welcome to our 2024 SpaceApps Hackathon project, where we combine the power of imagination, real NASA data, and immersive gameplay to create a unique educational experience for children and space enthusiasts! 🚀 In this project, we take players on an exciting journey through space using Roblox, where they travel through a cosmic portal, experience magnetic fields, solar winds, and reach the Sun, all while learning about space and physics. This game, designed with my 8-year-old daughter, Isabella, brings educational content to life in a fun and interactive way. 🌌🌞 Using locally parsed NASA MMS data, we simulate real-world space conditions like magnetic fields and solar wind intensity, providing a dynamic, first-person adventure that’s both engaging and informative. We faced challenges with API integration but pivoted to use local data to ensure an educational experience based on real science. 🎯 Key Highlights: First-person journey through space 🚀 Real NASA data integration 🌍 Fun, interactive gameplay with educational value 👩‍🚀 Dynamic, randomized space conditions based on real scientific phenomena 🛰️ This project was built for the 2024 SpaceApps Hackathon, an event that brings together problem solvers from all over the world to use space-related data and technology to tackle global challenges.
