Vidiots welcomes screen legend Dr. Peter Weller for the premiere of the new 4K restored master of David Cronenberg’s William S. Burroughs adaptation of Naked Lunch and a book signing for his new book Leon Battista Alberti in Exile – a deep dive into the prodigy poet, playwright, architect, painter, and humanist savant Leon Battista Alberti. Leave logic at the door and embrace our insect overlords in one of the most hallucinatory films ever made! This singular cinematic oddity sprung from the minds of one of the great poets of the 20th century and one of the great filmmakers – and undoubtedly a huge amount of mind-altering substances! Bill Lee (Peter Weller) is an exterminator with a penchant for ingesting pesticides. While hallucinating, Bill begins to take orders from a giant beetle that commands him to kill his wife and flee into the Interzone. There, he meets his wife’s doppelgänger and his typewriter morphs into a cockroach and begins to produce the book that the film is based upon. And that’s just the start of this surrealist masterpiece’s convoluted and mind-bending premise. Like all the best cult classics, this genre-defying head trip was a box office flop, but remains one of the strangest movies ever made and has amassed a loyal following of cinephiles, druggies, beatniks, and weirdos! Leon Battista Alberti in Exile by Dr. Peter Weller is available through Cambridge University Press or your local book seller.
