A while ago I bought some Roman Szmal paints, but I never really had the chance to explore them in detail. So before experimenting, I decided to add more of their paints to my collection. I ordered the Pasqualino Fracasso set (I liked the paints and the fact that buying a set would be cheaper than buying 24 individual full pans) as well as some single half and full pans. I’d compare Roman Szmal directly to Winsor & Newton watercolours — I honestly couldn’t tell much difference. The paints even had that same chemical smell when first opened. I discovered that I really liked Veronese red (PR102) and I'd like to experiment more with this pigment. Cobalt sea blue (PB28) surprised me — it looks completely different from what I usually expect when PB28 is mentioned. I also hadn’t realized there were so many versions of ultramarine pigments (PB29). I’d definitely add French Ultramarine to my palette, but I would want to experiment with ultramarine blue (green shade), ultramarine intense and ultramarine light before making any final decisions. I’d also like to explore the reds further. Quinacridone Red (PR122) has a saturated colour which is not everybody's cup of tea, but I really like the colours when it's mixed with earth pigments. The Pasqualino Fracasso set contains: Buff Titanium PW6:1; Quinophthalone Yellow PY138; Transparent Pyrrole Orange PO71; Cherry Quinacridone Red PR209; Quinacridone Pink PR122; Mineral Violet PB29/PV19; Shadow Violet PG50/PB29/PV19; Lavenda PW6/PB29/PV16; Ultramarine Intense PB29; Cobalt Blue PB28; Blue Sky PW6/PB15:1; Phthalo Blue (Green Shade) PB15:3; Cobalt Sea Blue PB28; Transparent Turquoise PB15:3/PG7; Aquarius Green PY150/PBr25/PB29; Nickel Azo Yellow PY150; Naples Yellow Light PW6/PY53/PBr24; Gold Ochre PY43; Goethite; Veronese Red Earth PR102; Caput Mortuum PR102; Cyprus Burnt Umber PBr7; Van Dyck Brown NBr8; Aquarius Black PBk11. I enjoyed working with these paints and I hope you enjoy this video :).
