#PinkPoursforPink is a collaboration of 7 amazing fluid artists in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I thought I'd ask some of my amazingly talented fluid art friends if they might want to do a collaboration for Breast Cancer Awareness. My own Mother, Barbara Travis is a breast cancer survivor and in asking around I found that Sarah Mack's and Cathleen Ozmore's Mothers are also Breast cancer survivors. Jeremy and Lee Masse also have people in their lives that have been affected by breast cancer along with Mina Villegas and Angie Mason. It's crazy how many people and families are affected by this disease. It's estimated that 1 out of 8 American women with develop some form of breast cancer in their lifetime. All of us have this connection so Sarah, Cathleen, Lee and Jeremy, Mina and Angie all agreed to participate in #PinkPoursForPink. I am very thrilled they all are taking time to do this collaboration because I know Sarah, Cathleen, Lee and Jeremy and Mina are so busy getting ready for the "Fluid Art Experience" in Dallas Texas. I'm so very thankful that they are taking the time to do this collaboration for awareness. My Mother Barbara Travis was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer back in 2000. I just remember it being a very scary time. My Mother's oldest sister Jane had breast and thought they had gotten it all, only to find out later it had metastasized to her liver. We lost her not long after and she was only 60 years old. This gave my Mother an extra heightened sense of how important yearly mammograms are! After being treated at the Wesley Long Hospital Cancer Center in Greensboro and being deemed cancer free, my Mother has continued to give back and volunteer at the cancer center. She helped other cancer patients and breast cancer survivors by being there to help them through their treatments and to be someone to talk to because she knows what they are going through first hand. She is an amazing lady and I'm so thankful for the wonderful doctors at Wesley Long Cancer Center and the fact that because of them we still have her in our lives! They premiss for this collaboration is Pink Pours for Pink and each artist will choose their type of pour but has to feature the Breast Cancer Ribbon color of pink prominently within their pour. my painting is a dirty flip cup pour with some pearl cell reactive paint formulas. This pink color pallet is not my norm but we are doing this for the pink ribbon of awareness! I am donating my painting to the Wesley Long Cancer Center where my Mother was treated.
