St Patrick's Park path from Callan Bridge, Armagh, comes out on the top of the hill at Mullacreevie Park. This is my attempt to give information about the route of the Great Road of the Fews, an ancient road between Dundalk (Irish: Dún Dealgan) and Navan Fort (Irish: Emain Macha). The road is thought to be over 2,100 years old. The route I have drawn here was done using the information I have found. I’m not sure how correct this is, but I believe it to be quite close. You have to understand that in over two millennium a lot can change on the ground and many parts of the original road may have been lost. This is also thought to be the road the boy Setanta followed on his way to join his uncle King Conchobar mac Nessa (King of Ulster (Ulaid)) and his Red Branch Knights before he changed his name to Cú Chulainn. My guesstimate to the route is just under 28 miles (see map at www.mapmywalk.com/routes/view/4848059677)
