🎵 Track 8 – Gmork’s Lament from the album Crashing Ivory Under Wood In “Gmork’s Lament,” Atreyu returns — not as a boy, not as a myth, but as a man. He enters the forgotten den of Gmork, the ancient Wolf of Darkness, and finds only bones and painted walls: a silent record of a cycle that devoured heroes and monsters alike. What once appeared as a necessary battle is revealed as a ritual without consent, engineered to sustain a false lunar economy. Atreyu understands, too late, that both he and Gmork were instruments in the same perverse design. Kneeling beside the wolf’s remains, Atreyu performs the rite of his people — one knee to the ground, head bowed, hand open toward the Light breaking through the sky of Fantastica. He does not curse his enemy. He mourns him. He prays for him. This is not a song of vengeance, but of just mourning. Not a heroic victory, but the breaking of a sacrificial cycle. Musically, the track blends tribal metal, melancholic speed metal, industrial textures, and ritualistic percussion, creating a soundscape of grief, recognition, and moral awakening. As Atreyu’s lament rises, the Light responds — not with comfort, but with judgment. The truth floods the den, and the lunar mask of the Childlike Empress fractures once more. The shadow does not die by force. It dies when it is no longer needed.
