Though often pitted against more formidable foes during the early days of the Second World War, it acquitted itself reasonably well in combat. L9033 of 5 Squadron (Egyptian Air Force) was camouflaged in the standard RAF Desert Land Scheme. A Watts two-blade propeller with the streamlined spinner cap was fitted, along with a Vokes tropical filter.
