The DigiMig project Team is excited to present the first edition of their Webinar series. In the Webinar on November 6th, 15:00 CET, Maria José Brites and Teresa Sofia Castro from Lusófona University in Portugal presented their work ‘Digital well-being in schools: the example of Information and Communication Clubs’. When considering the various approaches to digital well-being, it is important to pay attention to the impact of digital technologies on the concept of a good life for humans and society (Burr et al., 2020). In this presentation, we will consider digital wellbeing in non-formal spaces of school life, which are seen here as elements that promote digital citizenship in the daily lives of children and young people. We argue for the relevance of these contexts as catalysts for students’ formal lives. This reflection is based on (1) a series of participatory webinars that took place during the 2024-2025 academic year in Portugal, involving a partnership between the YouNDigital – Youth, News and Digital Participation project and the Directorate-General for Education, and (2) on nine interviews conducted with teachers from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of education. About the DigiMig Webinar Series The DigiMig Webinar Series aims to create a space for exchange and reflection on how digital technologies shape experiences of migration, belonging, and participation. By bringing together research from different disciplines and countries, the series highlights diverse perspectives on digital inclusion — from education and labour integration to gender and ageing. The series are a part of the VIDI-funded DigiMig project, carried out at the University of Groningen. More information about the project and the webinar series can be found on www.digimig.nl
