Long story this time! So not much room for any commentary. I really like this song, and really like Michaela. Possibly my favorite gender. ________________________________________________________________________ Fireworks embossed the sky as a young girl with green eyes looked up, irises reflecting the light of the fireworks. She gaped and looked next to her, the brown haired child next to her bouncing in place and looking excited. They were from two separate families, two separate lifestyles, completely apart but inseparable ever since they met. She smiled, looking back up at the fireworks before she flinched, hearing a yelling voice calling out to her from within the crowd. “Camellia, I have to go…” She began to walk off, before she let out a noise as her hand was gripped. “Michaela, don’t leave. I don’t want you to go back to your stupid parents,” Camellia huffed, their voice obviously tinged with worry for their friend. “I have to, or else…” She shuddered. She sighed, turning around and bringing the noble into a hug. “I’ll meet you tomorrow, okay?” “But what if Mister and Mistress Ivor catch you?” “They won’t, I-” “Michaela!” A gruff voice called out, and she turned around with fear, seeing her father slamming through the crowd. He looked down at the two, then grinned. “Oh, isn’t it little miss Faust. Michaela, you didn’t tell me you befriended the Duke’s daughter!” “I-” She began, but the man strongly took her hand, dragging her away. “Don’t forget to wave, Michaela, it’s rude,” He hissed, before she teared up, waving to the brunette behind her. Several years later… Michaela mopped the halls, her hair done back in a ponytail as she sweat, wiping her brow. Camellia was right next to her, trying their best to help, wiping the windows with a rag cloth. Two other maids looked at the duo, whispering amongst themselves. The green headed noble frowned, calling out to them. “What? Is this a spectacle to you? Go away,” She started, grimacing as the two continued to snicker, to which she made a motion to throw the wet rag at them and they pranced off, giggling. Camellia put their hands on their hips, huffing, as she continued to clean. “Camellia, you don’t have to do this. I’m really quite fine cleaning by myself,” Michaela began, to which they snorted at, the sound almost so genuine it made the maid smile. “I know you just went to this job because your parents asked you to,” Camellia said, dragging the wet rag across another window. “And you’re my best friend, so it’s only fair.” “Well… I guess I’m happy, then, to have such a generous friend,” Michaela laughed, finishing a section of the floor speedily. There was a moment of silence, before Michaela spoke up. “Camellia?” “Yeah?” “Do you ever think of… what you want to do? Maybe you’d like to settle down eventually, with someone you like.” “What? What brought this on?” Camellia leaned against the wall as she blinked, scrutinizing the maid, not noticing the freckles being drowned out by red. “Nothing, well, something. My parents have been talking about… Well, they’ve been talking about getting me married off at some point, to some noblewoman. Family business and all, they want to move up.” They became silent. “Do you want that?” “I don’t think it matters what I want to them, but… No, I’d like to marry for love,” Michaela turned away from Camellia, who practically bore a hole into her, their eyes softening. “Michaela, have you ever thought of moving?” The smooth and confident tone of the woman made Michaela speechless. Slowly, she nodded. “Let’s get out of here, then.” ________________________________________________________________________ Michaela walked off from the conversation with a smile, her face aglow with hope, but then her face sunk as she looked across the hall, seeing the two head Fausts glaring daggers in her direction. They ushered her into their office and she felt her heart crack in two as her worst nightmare came true. They were firing her. Heading home, walking down the winding roads to the outskirts of Himmelsstadt, she felt tears coming. She knew exactly what was coming. The yelling, the starvation, the neglect. She had no money, no way to get out, all of it went towards her parents’ livelihoods.
