Harquahala mountains Aguila Arizona about 30 miles west and south a bit from Wikenburg. After the "Oatman massacre" in 1851 Olive and Mary Ann Oatman were marched about 75 miles north to what is called "the first camp of captivity" which had been a mystery as to the location for 175 years with researchers figuring it could have been south into Mexico or north as far as the Grand Canyon. Some surmised Congress Arizona or other locations and the area of this video was also suspect. Using Olives own words it turns out she told the direction and location of the first year of their captivity in a ravine/wash untill the Mojave came and took them to a better situation along the Colorado River. Now it is known exactly where the camp was and the precise locations of some of the most famous writings of American history and the pioneers of the old west. True West magazine did a full centerfold of the route and the approximate location of the camp and Margot Mifflin who wrote Blue Tattoo agrees and that the next edition of her book it will contain the location of the confirmed camp. I recommend her book and is the easiest reading. It took me many trips including all the other locations described in Olives own words of the route to the first camp of captivity and I have uploaded many videos. At this time March 2026 nobody has been to the camp knowing what it was and its a risky hike. So far not even a handful of people have expressed interest and are legitimately afraid of the hike in for good reason. I know I will never return unless I were to be taken in by ATV the first part of the hike. Its simply TOO HARD AND TOO DANGEROUS.
