Athletic Training | Cincinnati Children's

http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/at... In sports there are victories, losses and injuries. That’s why Cincinnati Children’s partners with youth sports programs across the community, healing young athletes and getting them back to doing what they love - the sport. Kelsey Logan, MD, MPH Director, Division of Sports Medicine: "At Cincinnati Children’s Sports Medicine we work as a team. We realize that the team of us together treating the whole athlete is better than one of us. And so, we have the orthopedic surgeons, the sports medicine physicians, the athletic trainers, the physical therapists all working together to make sure that the young athlete gets the best care possible." Sharon Frank, MS, ATC Athletic Trainer: "They need someone there to be watching out for them, to be looking at things that may lead to injuries, to be there when injuries happen, to help them get better. It’s just so convenient to have someone there that has the medical knowledge to make safe decisions for the athletes, because that’s what it all comes back to." Dr. Logan: "We would like to have athletic trainers at all youth sports especially the ones that involve any significant risk for injury… like football, like lacrosse, like hockey. And we’re working to make that happen through our own efforts in the community, to put athletic trainers at youth sports events." Ryan Worley MEd, ATC Program Coordinator: "And we’re truly there to help them. We’re not there to hold their kids out longer than the coaches would like. If the kid is healthy and can go back to competing, we’re all for it and that’s what we’re there to do. If the kid is injured and likely to reinjure themselves or to injure themselves more, we are there to help prevent that from happening." Frank: "Running, jogging, sprinting… all the stuff that comes with sport, we know how to progress those kids safely back into it." Logan: "Our hope is that once you recover through one of our programs, that you are better than you ever were before." Worley: "We want to help kids succeed. And ultimately, if we can do it by being present, being role models, helping them heal from injury, then that’s what we’re here for."
