While the video is pretty self-explanatory, we had booked a night at the Landmark, Marylebone, as neither of us are fans of NYE, and we thought we should do something different, so decided to be tourists in our home town. The Landmark is one of the cheapest 5* hotels in London, and it is also not very well known (if we consider its more famous cousins such as the Rotz, Savoy, Claridge's and the Langham). Certainly, when Diane got lost coming for afternoon tea in the Winter Garden, on asking numerous people for directions, nobody had heard of it! We had booked the Executive Suite, which was large, luxurious and airy, but perhaps a little old-fashioned. Afternoon tea was a delight, though I should have had more willpower with the refillable sandwiches - which were all delicious - as I could barely finish my cakes and scones after. The next day we had brunch at Fischer's Marylebone (as having room service at half past midnight meant we weren't hungry for the hotel breakfast), watched some of the New Year's Day Parade on Piccadilly, saw the dinosaurs at Lightoom King's Cross (via platform 9 and three-quarters), and saw Wilde's 1895 masterpiece 'The Importance of Being Earnest' at the Noel Coward. Stephen Fry as Lady Bracknell was hilarious; I haven't laughed that much in a theatre for a very Long time. I'd go see it again but it closes 10th January. Music: 1. A guitar arrangement of ABBA's 'Happy New Year' (1980). 2. An orchestral version of 'The Perfect Year' from Lloyd-Webber's 'Sunset Boulevard' (1993; I was in it in 2015). 3. An instrumental piano version of Taylor Swift's 'New Year's Day' (2017). 4. & 5. Two pieces by John Williams: the theme to 'Jurassic Park' (1993) and 'Hedwig's Theme' from Harry Potter (2001). 6. Part of Benjamin Frankel's (London) score to the Michael Redgrave & Dame Edith Evans version of 'The Importance of Being Earnest' (1952). 7. Londoner Stanley Holloway's 1958 version of the music hall classic, 'I Live on Trafalgar Square' (1902).
