Statistics indicate that an acre of land can hold 160 avocado trees, with each tree bearing up to 120 kilograms at its optimal growth; and given that each tree has the potential to be maintained for a period not less than 40 years; a farmer with only one acre of land has the potential to earn up to $7,680 per acre per year (Approx. shs 28,416,00 per acre per year) for as long as 40 years. Also, we take note that the current farm gate price is $0.4(UGX 1480) per kilo in export. This is in comparison to an average of shs 4,000,000 earning from an acre of Sugarcane per year (avr. yield 40tones per 18 months) or shs 1,920,000from Maize (avr yield of 1.2 tones per acre per season with low external input).
