Have you ever dreamed of being able to use an interface, control a robot, or communicate with a friend just by thinking about it? To step into an interface, video game, or movie just by thinking about it? Or to be able to cure cognitive nervous system disorders. These are all potential applications of neurotechnology and brain-computer interfaces. Take a look as we explore the fundamentals of the technology and learn how you can get involved. The Neurotechnology Exploration Team (NXT) has operated as the first student-run research organization at RIT with a focus on building assistive technology, controlled by the brain and nervous system, to aid in communication and movement disabilities. Since it was founded in 2018, it has been represented at several events (included a fully sponsored one in Dubai), have done user testing, built dozens of projects, and have been cleared (and will soon be starting, human subject research to amass a large motor-imagery data-base for computer, video game, and wheelchair control. In Fall 2021, we are planning to transition our organization to a student club with auxiliary research projects. This is in alignment with our overarching goal of breaking down the barriers to the field and inspiring new neurotechnologists. If you are a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology or the University of Rochester, we encourage you to join us for monthly talks about neurotech, networking, and research opportunities, and to gain access to hardware and lab space. If you are outside of the Rochester (NY) area, we invite you to attend our online events and follow our work for tutorials and other good content.
