Hugh Jackman to open BRIT Awards with 'Greatest Showman' performance

(11 Feb 2019) HUGH JACKMAN TO OPEN BRIT AWARDS WITH 'GREATEST SHOWMAN' PERFORMANCE Hollywood star Hugh Jackman will open this year's BRIT Awards with a song from his film "The Greatest Showman."    Jackman, who played showman P.T. Barnum in the hit musical film, will sing "The Greatest Show" under the creative direction of the movie's director Michael Gracey.    In addition to being a box office success, "The Greatest Showman"'s soundtrack topped the charts in the U.K. for 28 non-consecutive weeks and reached multi-platinum status in both Britain and the U.S.. In a statement, Jason Iley, BRITs chairman and chairman/CEO of Sony Music U.K., said: "We are delighted to welcome the Golden Globe and Tony Award-winning superstar Hugh Jackman to the Brits stage this month with a performance that is set to be nothing short of spectacular.  The Greatest Showman soundtrack dominated the charts in 2018, breaking records all over the world as well as here in the UK. It's only fitting that the UK's biggest celebration of musical successes should be kicked off with a performance from the biggest selling album in the UK of the last year."    Other performers at the 2019 BRIT Awards include Little Mix, Pink, Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris.    The BRIT Awards take place on Wednesday February 20 at London's O2 Arena. Jackman, best known for playing Wolverine in the "X-Men" franchise, is launching his own pop-star like world tour later this year. His "The Man, The Music, The Show" World Tour will kick off this May, and includes five nights at The O2 Arena.
