By Drew Bollea 8th grade students at Ringgold Middle School proudly walked into their new school on Monday morning.A drum line led the way as the 6th and 7th grade students lined the street cheering on the 8th graders. The students and faculty took each step with a growing sense of pride. Principal Mike Sholl kicked off an assembly to commemorate an important day in Ringgold Middle historyIt was unbelievable how exciting it was to see them come home, said Sholl. It is just a huge celebration for our community, said Denia Reese, Supt. Catoosa County Schools. The 8th grade students and teachers was displaced on April 27th 2011. That day a tornado ripped through the Ringgold community. The storm destroyed everything in its path and obliterated the previous 8th grade wing. You always see those things on TV and you think it will happen to someone else, but it was us, said Sholl.Madison Headrick was in 6th grade when the tornado hit. Everybody was just devastated, said Headrick, we didn't really know what to think and we were all just scared.Until today, Headrick and her classmates had been displaced to Ringgold High School. It's been heck-tick being at the high school and having to walk back over here for certain events, said Headrick. She says she is relieved to be back in a place she can call her own.Whenever everything happened, we had to be strong and just stand up and do the best we could, said Headrick. The new school now has 17 top of the line classrooms, including other science and art labs. The $6.2 million dollar project proves that Ringgold was able to stand strong despite the crushing storm. It looks awsome in here, said Headrick looking around the shiny floors and new glass windows. It's a good reminder to the students to see that we can do anything, said Reese, that we can overcome that challenge.
