This is the newest audience targeting 🎯 interface I'm seeing for Facebook Ads (subject to change). You may not see this already, but when available for your ad account, be sure to know how to configure all targeting options: Only the following 3 targeting settings will show by default: ⚙️ Locations: Setting a location will function as a control, meaning ad delivery will not go beyond your country selection. ⚙️ Age: When selecting a specific age range, you will be able to set it as a control or suggestion. When you set the age range as a suggestion, Meta may deliver your ads beyond that age range when it is likely to improve results. ⚙️ Custom Audiences: When you select specific custom audiences, you will be able to set these as control or suggestion. When selecting these audiences as suggestion, Meta may show your ads to similar audiences, based on your custom audiences selection. --- The following 3 targeting settings are hidden by default, but you can click the dropdown to 'show more settings': ⚙️ Gender: When selecting a specific gender, you will be able to set it as a control or suggestion. ⚙️ Detailed Targeting: When selecting specific detailed targeting options like interests, it will always be used as a suggestion for ad delivery. This means that Meta may always go beyond your selection when it is likely to improve results. ⚙️ Languages: When you set (a) specific language(s), it will always function as a control. Meta advices to only set a language when that language isn't common to your location. --- In general, the broader your audience is, the better your results will be. That's why Meta is starting to hide more targeting settings. However, they still allow advertisers to control specific settings to be used as hard targeting restrictions.
