Özlem shares her experiences as a young Olympic athlete and how a shift in her mindset helped her overcome her fears and compete. My name is Özlem Çarıkcıoğlu. I was born in İstanbul in 1994. Currently I am studying Industrial Engineering in Koç University. My skiing career started when I was 8 years old in a school camp. I started racing at the age of 10 and 3 years later I was selected to the national team. After graduating from elementary school, I continued racing professionally with national team until the last year of high school. Then I choose to quit for a year in order to study for the university exam. After my comeback, I studied and skied professionally at the same time to be able to qualify for the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang 2018, South Korea. Last February I had the chance to represent my county in the Olympics, which was the greatest achievement of my life. My next goal is to take part in 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and have an improved performance.
