Did you hear the news? We moved!! We said goodbye to our old home and garden and have been busy getting settled into our new house. And yes, we are still local to Sacramento, CA and still gardening in zone 9b. The only bonus is we get the opportunity to build a garden from scratch (totally blank space, you'll see) with all the knowledge we have learned since we built our last one. I'm tired already thinking about it. Our new home is located on a corner lot- which means TONS of front yard space, so yes, you guessed it.. front yard garden!! We are planning to build raised beds, arched trellises and even a little 'kids' garden for our fast growing baby. So stay tuned, there will be a lot to come and we are excited to bring you along for the journey! SAY HELLO! Lucas & Beth live in Zone 9b, Sacramento, CA, (with their dog, Liberty, two cats, Bruce & Wayne, and young daughter / future gardener, Nora). We garden in raised beds using vertical trellising techniques to maximize our urban gardening space. Together, we garden year-round and share what we are growing and what we are learning along the way. Our gardening strategy is to create a garden full of diversity. We intermix vegetables, flowers, and herbs to create an ecosystem where beneficial insects thrive. We avoid all pesticides and instead plant things that will take care of pests for us. Additionally, we love to compost and try to live a sustainable life where we can eat what we grow' from our backyard garden. Inside our urban 'homestead', we utilize everything we grow to feed us or create sustainable items that can be used. We utilize different preservation techniques like canning and fermenting to make our harvests last and even have a sourdough starter to make fresh baked bread.
