The Go Devil Run 2025 Day 2 part 2 of 3 parts. Day 2 was a lot of boulder hopping through the trail. All of the Jeeps made it through, a few did suffer some minor body damage. It’s interesting to see the different tires and combinations of lockers (front and back or just rear or open) and how different terrains change my opinions on which tires I would choose if I were buying some new ones. One thing we don’t see in this video is the first two Jeeps go through the “waterfall” I’m not sure how well they did or didn’t do going through. Safe to say they did ok or we would have caught up to them in time to see them go through. If you are not familiar with GDR (the Go Devil Run) here is information The Go Devil Run is a unique vintage off‑road trail event—inspired by the early-style off‑roading of the late 1940s and 1950s. Here’s what makes it so special: ⸻ What Is the Go Devil Run? • It’s a modern-day group trail adventure designed to mimic the vintage vibe of early off-road trips. • Only period-correct, nearly-stock Jeeps from the 1940s and 1950s are allowed—think flatfender models like MB, GPW, M38, CJ‑2A, CJ‑3A, or their DJ counterparts. • Each Jeep must be powered by the iconic 134 cu in Go Devil flathead engine, have bias‑ply tires, and participants are encouraged to wear period-correct clothing and bring a laid-back, fun-loving attitude. ⸻ Origins & Philosophy • The event was created in 2020 by Ian Liljeblad, an off-road fabricator and real estate agent, who has a deep passion for wheeling nearly-stock flat-fender Jeeps. • Inspired by vintage trail photos (like those from Tierra Del Sol’s Desert Safari or the Rubicon Trail) and a nostalgic margarita or two, Ian wanted to bring that era’s spirit back to life. • The name “Go Devil Run” pays homage to the Go Devil engine, the flathead four-cylinder that powered wartime Jeeps. ⸻ Experience Highlights • The typical setting for the run is northern Arizona, although this year was held in Southern California’s desert • The trail covers around 300 miles, from sand to boulders, we covered lots of desert ground. • Along the way, participants encounter various natural obstacles, make trail-side repairs, camp under the stars, and share stories and camaraderie. • The run has grown annually—starting with around 21 Jeeps in 2020, and continuing with enthusiastic participation in 2021 and 2022 and still going in 2025 ⸻ Why It Stands Out • Nostalgia meets adventure: It’s not just about off-roading—it’s about celebrating simpler times, mechanical heritage, and vintage style. • Authentic gear only: Though modern upgrades are technically possible, the vibe—and rules—favor period‑correct preservation. • Community-driven: A relaxed, communal spirit with shared repairs, nights around campfires, and restored trails. • Connection to Jeep history: It honors the legacy of the Go Devil engine and the original era when Jeeps became icons. ⸻ If you’re a fan of vintage off-roading, automotive history, or trail adventures with character, the Go Devil Run is definitely one of the most charming takes on it.
