It includes all Pokemon up through Generation 8, including Hisuian Pokemon from Legends of Arceus. It also adds in things such as Pokemon centers, Pokemarts, Pokemon-based NPCs that can give quests, and many different Pokemon related items. The game allows you to both purchase and craft your own pokeballs through the use of apricorns. There are numerous event-style things you can do to summon and capture legendary Pokemon, while some legendary Pokemon have a chance to spawn in certain biomes when conditions are met. You can also find fossils and other items or unique conditions to spawn and capture certain Pokemon. Depending on the Pokemon, players are able to ride their Pokemon. The type of Pokemon may also allow the player to utilize it to fly or swim in the world. On Multiplayer servers players can also battle one another, as if it were a real Pokemon MMO style game. Pixelmon also includes both Mega Evolution and Dynamaxing, along with the raid battles seen in Gen 8 of Pokemon.
