LAPD's Southwest Division receives a call about a possible shooting at the Crenshaw mall, which lies between the city of Los Angeles and the district of Baldwin Hills, on the intersection of Crenshaw Blvd. and Martin Luther King. The Wal-Mart is within the district limits of Baldwin Hills, which would not be permitted within all other district city limits of Los Angeles. The mall itself is under the jurisdiction of the LAPD. Throughout the audio you hear units responding to a perimeter call, which is eventually called off due to insufficient evidence. The last minutes of the audio was recorded off the SIMPLEX frequency of the Southwest Division. Every division of the LAPD has their own designated frequency, as well as a SIMPLEX frequency. SIMPLEX is used when officers are conducting an investigation and need to speak to one another, without it necessarily pertaining to the rest of their division. In this case, we hear the George Units (which is the phonetic name given to all Gang Units of LAPD) of the Southwest Division conducting a field investigation of the evidence, and talking over the SIMPLEX frequency. The suspects were believed to have been Black P Stone Bloods from the "Jungles" area of Baldwin Hills, shooting at another unidentified gang member. The Black P Stone Bloods and the Jungles were depicted in the film Training Day.
