Federico Velez, MD is the Leonard Apt Endowed Chair in Pediatric Ophthalmology at UCLA and Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Stein Eye Institute, UCLA and the Doheny Eye Institute, UCLA. Dr. Velez did his fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the Stein Institute. He has presented over 400 national and international lectures including 5 named lectures, 23 guest keynote lectures, and has authored over 250 publications. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of AAPOS. Summary Oblique muscle dysfunction is manifested as over elevation, over depression, under relevaton, or under depression in adduction. It is frequently the cause of alphabet pattern strabismus. There are a variety of surgical procedures for weakening or tightening these muscles.
