We have a 50 year old male complaining of a huge bulge in his lower abdomen. At first, he states it was painless. But, today he says he started having pain 7/10 after he states he couldn't push it back in. Now, he is also noticing that bulge has bruising over it. He denies nausea, vomiting, bowel/bladder changes, fever or chills. On physical exam, his abdomen was soft non-distended. There was tenderness over his right lower quadrant. The mass was noted midway between the ASIS and pubic symphysis - along the inguinal canal. Today, we'll review how we managed this patient. We'll also go over the differences between different hernias and the risks which could predispose the patient to complications. - Our goal at Medgeeks is to help you live the life you want to live as you navigate a career in medicine.
