What's up, Plastic Addicts? In this video, I take on the challenging commission build of the 1/1000 USS Enterprise-B from Star Trek Generations. Initially hesitant due to the kit’s small scale and the intricacies of adding lighting effects, this project became a rewarding journey that tested my skills and patience. The build includes a treasure trove of aftermarket enhancements: Lake Monster Details resin parts, Green Strawberry photo-etch sets, Pendragon Aztec decals (downloaded from Starship Modeler), and marking decals from Lake Monster. I also added a 3D-printed lower sensor dome from Modelwerks, lighting elements from HDA Modelworx, and fiber optics from the Fiber Optic Store. While the base kit is a straightforward build, adding lighting effects elevated the complexity with modifications like window drilling, light-blocking, and intricate wiring. The Bussard collectors proved especially challenging, requiring extensive cutting, fitting, and material isolation to achieve the desired effect. I’ll walk you through each step of the process, from removing molded details to accommodate aftermarket parts, to masking for the tri-tone warp nacelle panels, and applying decals that transformed the kit’s finish. There were moments of frustration, but by the end, I had gained new techniques for drilling clean TMP-era oval windows and improved my overall skills. This build reminded me that even the toughest challenges can lead to growth. Model building is a journey of creativity and perseverance, and each build makes us better for the next.
